Please Note: All scheduled courses (unless clearly indicated) are delivered online using an Interactive Blended Online Learning Model. This includes a blend of live webinars, workshops and Q&A sessions with clinical tutors combined with eLearning and videos; all designed to enable participants to build the knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete their course.


Please note – this package is aimed at learners who already have experience with patients with cardiovascular disease, to support them to refresh their skills. If you are new to working with patients with CVD, please have a look at our Essentials of CVD workshop, which introduces pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, and day-to-day management.

Update your skills and share best practice

This CVD Refresher package is designed for health and care professionals who currently support people with conditions under the cardiovascular disease umbrella and wish to refresh their skills and implement quality improvement initiatives.

Led by an experienced clinical specialist and facilitator, these highly interactive sessions will enable you to update your clinical practice by:

  • Discussing and reviewing best practice models
  • Reviewing current guidelines around diagnosing and managing CVD
  • Evaluating pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment pathways
  • Exploring risk factors, risk assessment calculators, and prevention strategies
  • Identifying a new quality improvement initiative for your practice

Course outcomes:

  • An understanding of best practice models and treatment strategies
  • A range of options for supporting people in self-management
  • How to apply national and local guidelines
  • How to understand the needs of your practice population and take positive action
  • The completion of a service improvement initiative for your practice

This is a series of two 2 hour facilitated online workshops with research and quality initiatives to be undertaken between sessions. It combines group discussions, peer review and best practice development. The workshops are highly interactive, based on the specific needs of the individuals and group, with opportunities to discuss current practice and apply learning to ‘real life’ case studies.

Familiarisation with national guidance along with any local formularies and guidelines will be an asset.

Course Details

Delivery: Facilitated online group sessions – two, two hour sessions delivered 6-8 weeks apart. Learners are encouraged to undertake a brief research or quality improvement initiative between sessions 1 and 2.

  • An understanding of best practice models and treatment strategies
  • A range of options for supporting people in self-management
  • How to apply national and local guidelines
  • How to understand the needs of your practice population and take positive
    action
  • The completion of a service improvement initiative for your practice

Attending both sessions of this refresher equates to four hours of CPD activity. Certificates will be issued for courses starting on or after 1 September 2021.
