ARTP Frequently Asked Questions

When should I apply to take my ARTP certification?

Once you’ve completed your online learning, you can register for your ARTP certification. The exact point at which you apply for certification will vary between learners, as your knowledge and experience in spirometry may vary. Some learners might apply at month four of their learning journey; others will wait until month six. No matter when you want to apply, you must apply for your certification before the end of your six months’ enrolment with Education for Health.

Do we have to complete the eLearning before we register for the ARTP certification?

Your learning with Education for Health is independent of the ARTP certification. Depending on your role within spirometry and your level of experience, you may wish to complete and/or focus on certain chapters within the eLearning programme. However, we recommend that you complete all chapters, as this provides you with a thorough grounding in all aspects of spirometry.

How do multiple choice questions (MCQs) work as part of the assessment?

MCQs are for the interpreting element of the full certification. You’ll take the test online. The MCQs provided to you will be drawn from a pool of questions. The system will select 20 at random for you to complete. These need to be completed under exam conditions within 60 minutes. The questions include things like interpreting tests, grading severity of obstructions, using Z scores as per latest guidance, and true/false statements. You will have three questions to pass, and practice attempts will be available.

Do we need 10 traces as part of the portfolio?

10 submitted results need to be repeatable/reproducible in line with ARTP guidelines.

What’s the annual process once I’m on the register?

Once you’re certified, you must complete an annual process to remain on the ARTP register. This is a yearly payment with a supporting statement indicating that you are still performing spirometry and are maintaining continuing professional development. 5% will also be picked at random and asked to complete a portfolio. This is reflective of requirements set by other healthcare professionals.

You can take refresher spirometry courses with Education for Health to support your ongoing professional development.

Do we still need to submit a protocol?

Yes.

If we have problems with Pebble Pad, who do we contact?

Pebble Pad is the platform the ARTP uses where you will submit your portfolio. There is an inbuilt button on the platform where you can ask any questions you have relating to the technical use of the platform.
