26th August 2015
We are delighted to announce that Monica Fletcher OBE, Chief Executive of Education for Health, will also take up the role of Knowledge Exchange Lead for the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research (AUKCAR).
Monica is past Chair of the European Lung Foundation and a Fellow of The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI). She brings a strong and varied background in respiratory disease, health service management, policy and patient involvement in healthcare.
Monica will work with the AUKCAR team and Asthma UK to ensure knowledge exchange is integrated throughout the lifespan of all AUKCAR projects, so that patients, communities, clinicians, researchers and policy feed into, and benefit from, a continuous cycle of: care, science and evidence, ultimately improving the lives of those affected by asthma.
Professors Aziz Sheikh and Chris Griffiths, AUKCAR Co-Directors, said:
“Monica Fletcher is an internationally recognised expert in knowledge translation and we are therefore thrilled that Monica has agreed to take up this crucially important role in the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research. We look forward to working with Monica and drawing on her considerable expertise and experience as we strive to improve outcomes for the millions of people affected by asthma in the UK.”
Dr Erika Kennington, Head of Research at Asthma UK said:
“The Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research (AUKCAR) is the UK’s first integrated Centre focused solely on improving the quality of life of people with asthma by finding better treatments and making them available faster than ever before. A key part of its work is knowledge exchange between researchers, and we’re delighted that Monica Fletcher has been appointed in this role – we look forward to seeing the benefits that this brings to the 1 in 11 people in the UK with asthma.”
