This graduate certificate programme aims to develop the specialist knowledge, skills and competencies of newly appointment GPNs by developing their underpinning knowledge base in relation to specialist clinical practice. The programme will be supported by the Practice Nurse Competency Framework (RGCP 2014) and the Education and Career Framework for District Nursing and General Practice Nursing (HEE 2015) with the learning emphasis being placed on enabling the students’ to provide services that promote health and well-being, foster and promote self-care and deliver individualised outcomes in the person’s own home, local surgery and community.
This programme will equip students with the knowledge and skills required to prepare them to deliver the range of skills required to meet competency challenges in Primary and Community Care settings.

- Gaining academic credit for a named award. A number of credits is assigned to each module, which indicates the amount of learning undertaken, and the specified credit level indicates the relative depth of learning involved. Credit is a means of quantifying and recognising learning whenever and wherever it is achieved. Credit may also help you transfer to another programme either within Education for Health or at a different institution.

Please note this is a standalone Graduate Certificate module for GPNs who already have a degree. If you would like to earn credits that could be counted towards a degree, then please select the Level 6 module option.

This is a Graduate Certificate Level 6 module, which carries 60 CATS (Credit Accumulation Transfer Scheme) points.
This is a 12 months eLearning course with optional study days. It has a notional study time of 600 hours which includes time to study learning materials, attend study days where relevant, and complete assessments.
This module is delivered by blended learning, with study days to support the online course. Please note that if low numbers of students book onto this module we may cancel study days at short notice. If this is the case, students already registered will be contacted by our Finance Team and can choose to continue with the course as distance only, or be refunded.
Our study days are optional, although we advise that you attend if you possibly can, as students tell us that they learn a lot from the face to face contact with their tutor and that networking with other students is particularly useful.
The location of study days is determined by the cohort you choose to join.
Students will be required to complete 2 x 750 word reflective pieces relating to patient consultations. These will be peer reviewed and discussed via on line forums.
Students are assessed by a competency document (Pass / fail) and a written assignment.
Students are required to produce a 5000 word written case study which demonstrates how a patient consultation was completed and follow up management was planned.
Criteria for a pass
Students must achieve a minimum mark of 40% to pass the module. Reassessment is as per regulations in the Student Guide.
All applicants for the Graduate Certificate must have a BSc in a relevant field and must be a registered Healthcare Professional working in a relevant field to enable them to apply their learning to their workplace and have the professional support of a mentor in practice.
Applicants must be able to provide proof of their health professional qualification and currency of registration to the relevant professional body (e.g. NMC or HCPC).
All applicants should have sufficient competency in the English Language to successfully study at Level 6. It is recommended that students have proficiency in the English language equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550.
All learning materials, teaching and assessment are conducted in the English language. Students will need to apply this to an academic environment.
It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they have sufficient proficiency in the English Language to undertake the module or programme to which they are registered.
