Diploma (DipHE) in Long Term Conditions

Programme Details

The DipHE educates students to diploma level across a broad spectrum of subjects relating to the management of people living with long term conditions, and promotes evidence based professional practice and individual personal development.

The DipHE may appeal to students who completed their healthcare qualification without a degree or a diploma.  It may also be suitable for those working in a relevant field of healthcare and are able to provide evidence of study at the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) level 4.

The DipHE in Long Term Conditions programme is validated by The Open University (OU).

Please be aware that from 1 January 2019, the following modules will no longer be available as optional modules for the programme:

  • Performing Quality Assured Diagnostic Spirometry Level 5
  • Performing and Interpreting Quality Assured Spirometry Level 6.

For the DipHE programme, you will need to achieve a total of 240 credits.

We will award 120 credits of these credits at FHEQ level 4 as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) upon receipt and verification of either:

  • evidence of your Healthcare Professional registration,

  • evidence of study at FHEQ level 4.

An example of a typical DipHE Long Term Conditions student journey is:

  • FHEQ Level 4 120 credits – Recognition of Prior learning (HCP Registration)
  • FHEQ Level 5 120 credits:
    • Compulsory module Complexity in Long Term Conditions (15credits)
    • Optional module (30 credits)
    • Optional module (30 credits)
    • Optional module (30 credits)
    • Optional module (15 credits)
Start Date

You can enrol at any time through the programme page on our online store.

You would need to be registered on the programme before undertaking any modules that you would like to count towards its completion.

If you are currently studying a module with us and would like this to be counted towards the programme, you would need to register before the results for this module are released.

Once you have registered, you have a maximum of 3 years to complete the programme.

Study Method

Our modules use a blended learning approach, with online learning materials supported by optional face to face study days (with the exception of Spirometry, for which attendance is compulsory for study day two).

Modules are scheduled throughout the year and you can undertake them in any order that you like.  We strongly advise only studying one at a time.

To enrol on our DipHE programme you would normally need to either be:

  • a UK registered Healthcare Professional,

  • working in the UK in a relevant field of healthcare and able to provide evidence of study at FHEQ level 4.

Please note that all learning materials, teaching and assessment are conducted in the English language.  Students will need to apply this to an academic environment.
