Catherine Thomson 

As a nurse with a career spanning over 30 years, Cathy is committed to supporting colleagues and learners to understand the responsibilities and high level of competency that is required to practice evidence-based nursing in the ever-changing arena of health care. She has held a variety of roles in primary care, including Nurse Prescriber; Student Nurse Mentor; Chronic Disease Management Nurse; Diabetes Lead Nurse and Diabetes Educator, although her career began in the acute sector with experience as a Ward Nurse in Acute Medicine, Ward Nurse Cardiac Surgery and Acute Response Team Community Nurse. Cathy has worked in her current role of Lead Practice Nurse since 2006 and is also the Diabetes Lead for her Practice. 

In 2023, Cathy obtained a PGCert Diabetes Care through Education for Health and she is currently studying for her MSc Long Term Conditions. She was awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse, which she welcomed as an opportunity to raise the profile of Community Nursing with special interest in General Practice Nursing
