This workshop provides an introduction to spirometry for health care support workers/assistants enabling them to identify their learning needs for future development. it provides an overview of the key aspects of patient preparation and safety with an awareness of the importance of accuracy and reproducibility in testing. It is a very practically based workshop encouraging interactivity and discussion around the implementation of this skill within the HCA role. It raises awareness of problems encountered doing testing such as coughs, slow starts etc but recognises that the HCA role does not incorporate interpretation.
