This course is designed for health care professionals who regularly encounter the challenges of managing patients diagnosed with pre diabetes and those with established disease. This exciting distance learning course comprises a combination of two interactive study days, self directed study via on-line learning with practical case scenarios and educational support as required.
The course provides in-depth knowledge on the epidemiology; pathophysiology; investigation; diagnosis; pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of patients with both pre diabetes and established disease. It will also help you to critically evaluate the evidence in managing cardiovascular risk factors to prevent complications and further deterioration in those with existing complications. It is ideal for practitioners who deal with long term conditions, and need advanced practical skills and expertise in the assessment, investigation & treatment of patients with diabetes.
This module is based on evidence based guidelines; Skills for Health Framework (Diab GA1; GA2; GA3; GA4; HA1; HA2; HA3; HA4; HA5; HA7; HA8; HA9; HA10; HA11; HA12; HA13; HAS3.1; HAS3.2; HD2; HD4; ED01; ED02; TT01; TT02; TX03) and the Integrated Competency Framework for Diabetes (5.1 Promoting Self Care; 5.2 Nutrition; 5.3 Urine Monitoring; 5.4 Blood Glucose Monitoring; 5.5 Oral Therapies; 5.6 Injectable Therapies; 5.7 Hypoglycaemia; 5.8 Hyperglycaemia; 5.9 Inter-current Illness 5.12 Hypertension and Coronary Heart Disease; 5.13 Neuropathy; 5.14 Nephropathy; 5.15 Retinopathy).
