Smoking Cessation

You do not need to be a health professional to study Education for Health's smoking cessation module. It is for anyone who has the opportunity to offer smoking cessation advice and allows you to develop your skills and knowledge which will enhance your ability to offer smoking cessation services to clients. Module content includes understanding why people smoke, the impact of smoking on health and the benefits and difficulties of quitting. Students will learn about the quit process, how to reduce withdrawal symptoms and learn strategies to cope with behavioural changes. As a result of undertaking the module you will be able to examine the main methods of smoking cessation and assess their effectiveness, critically examine principles of an effective smoking cessation strategy, apply smoking cessation theories and strategies to clinical practice, devise an appropriate smoking cessation action plan for particular circumstances and generate ways of facilitating change management in particular cases through reflective practice.
