Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI)
The trade association for more than 90 companies in the UK producing prescription medicines for human use. Its member companies research, develop, manufacture and supply more than 80% of the medicines prescribed through the NHS.

Allergy UK (British Allergy Foundation)
A national medical charity established to represent the views and needs of people with allergy, food intolerance and chemical sensitivity. It offers information for both the healthcare professional and the patient including fact sheets, new research and 'free from' food lists.

American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI)
Provides access to research and evidence based clinical guidelines and procedures which includes a section for patient information but is mainly aimed at the clinician. 

American Thoracic Society (ATS)
The world's leading medical association dedicated to advancing the clinical and scientific understanding of pulmonary diseases, critical illnesses and sleep-related breathing disorders.

Anaphylaxis Campaign
Charitable organisation that offers clear, precise information to both patients and healthcare professionals around the growing number of people at risk from severe allergic reactions by providing information and support relating to foods and other triggers such as latex, drugs and insect stings.
AllergywiseAccess the AllergyWise Online Training Programme (authored by Sue Clarke, Nurse Advisor to Anaphylaxis Campaign). Online courses are available for GPs & Practice Nurses, and Healthcare professionals.
These RCN/RCGP accredited courses enable users to improve their knowledge of severe allergy through self-directed study and also provide resources to cascade learning to others through structured presentations.

Arrhythmia Alliance
The Heart Rhythm Charity promoting better understanding, diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for individuals with cardiac arrhythmias. Arrhythmia Alliance (A-A) is a coalition of individuals, patient groups, professional medical groups and allied professionals. These groups work together to promote timely and effective diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.

Arthritis Research UK
Arthritis Research UK is the charity leading the fight against arthritis. More than one in six people are affected by arthritis, it is the biggest cause of pain and disability in the UK.

Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists (ARNS)
ARNS exists to promote a higher level of respiratory nursing practice through leadership, education and professional development and to influence the direction of respiratory nursing care. Free membership for nurses working in primary and secondary care whose main focus is the care of patients with respiratory disease.

Association for Respiratory Technology & Physiology (ARTP)
Professional organisation for respiratory physiologists and technicians. It contains comment and opinion on current issues related to pulmonary function testing and information about training.

Asthma UK
Useful patient education materials available in a range of languages.  Support and advice for health professionals and patients, information on current research, statistics and service provision for asthma.

Atrial Fibrillation Association (AFA) 

Provides support, information and education to anyone affected by atrial fibrillation (AF).  AFA works in partnership with patients and clinical experts to
advance the awareness and knowledge of both the medical profession and the
general public on the risks, detection and treatment of AF

British Cardiovascular Society (BCS)
BCS is the voice for those working in cardiovascular health, science and disease management in the UK.  They aim to promote and support both the healthcare professionals who work in cardiology and the patients for whom they want to encourage the best possible treatment.

British Heart Foundation (BHF)
The BHF mission is to play a leading role in the fight against disease of the heart and circulation, so that it is no longer a major cause of disability and premature death. Working alongside government, other health charities, health professionals and supporters to beat heart disease.

British Hypertension Society (BHS)
The BHS provides a medical and scientific research forum to enable sharing of research in order to understand the origin of high blood pressure and improve its treatment. They produce internationally renowned guidelines for the management of hypertension which are widely adopted in primary care in the UK and elsewhere. They have also established an educational programme to support scientists, doctors and other healthcare workers involved in understanding the basis of high blood pressure and improving its treatment throughout the UK.

British Journal of Primary Care Nursing - Cardiovascular (BJPCN)
The official FREE journal of Education for Health providing guidance for the practical application of evidence based medicine for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

British Lung Foundation (BLF)
The charity for patients with lung disease.  The website contains a wealth of useful information as well as reports and surveys for health professionals and policy makers.   They fund world-class research to improve treatment, care and support for people affected by lung disease, this includes the nationwide network of Breathe Easy support groups.

British Medical Journal (BMJ)
An international peer reviewed medical journal and online publication. The website is updated daily with the BMJ's latest original research, education, news and comment articles.

British National Formulary (BNF)
Provides UK healthcare professionals with sound up-to-date information on the selection and clinical use of medicines.

Blood Pressure Association
The Blood Pressure Association is dedicated to lowering the nation's blood pressure.  They help the local NHS to provide local initiatives to ensure that the delivery of NHS Health Checks for 40-74 year-olds, as part of the government's national vascular screening programme 'Putting Prevention First', is a success. They  provide a service to carry out the NHS Health Checks (vascular screening) and support workshops plus training for health care professionals.

British Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Association
The aims of the association are to promote public awareness that snoring and sleep apnoea are generally treatable complaints and that help is available. They offer information on causes and treatments and have a close working relationship with the medical profession and provide them and their patients with our expert help and information.

British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI)
Aims to provide a high quality NHS based service for the treatment of people with allergic disease and other disorders of the immune system.  Information for scientists, medics and healthcare professionals  on areas such as research, government policy, guidelines, services in the UK.

British Thoracic Society (BTS)
The BTS objective is to improve the standards of care of people who have respiratory diseases. There are downloadable copies of all BTS Guidelines, access to audit tools, educational materials, case studies, and other tools developed to disseminate key messages in the Guidelines.

Cardio & Vascular Coalition
A national coalition of 41 voluntary and professional organisations with an interest in promoting and protecting cardiac and vascular health iin England.  Education for Health is a member.  The interests of the CVC membership cover cardiac and vascular and related conditions - heart disease, diabetes, stroke and kidney disease - from pre-birth to end of life care.

Cochrane Library
A collection of six databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making, and a seventh database that provides information about groups in The Cochrane Collaboration.

National policy, practical guidance and standards for the health care sector.

Diabetes UK
Diabetes UK is the largest UK charity devoted to the treatment and care of people with diabetes, their family, friends and carers. It's mission is to improve the quality of life for people with the condition and work towards a future without diabetes.  It is one of the largest funders in the UK of research into better treatments for diabetes and the search for a cure. Diabetes UK provides practical support and information and safety-net services to help people manage their diabetes.

European Respiratory Society (ERS)
ERS is the leading professional organisation in its field in Europe. Its scope covers both basic science and clinical medicine. ERS seeks to alleviate suffering from respiratory disease and promote lung health through research, sharing of knowledge and through medical and public education.

Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD)
GARD is a voluntary alliance of national and international organizations, institutions, and agencies commited towards the common goal to reduce the global burden of respiratory diseases. The Global Alliance is part of the World Health Organization's (WHO) global work to prevent and control chronic diseases.

Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA)
The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) works with healthcare professionals and public health officials around the world to reduce asthma prevalence, morbidity, and mortality through resources such as evidence-based guidelines for asthma management.

Global Initiative for COPD (GOLD)
The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) works with health care professionals and public health officials to raise awareness of COPD and to improve prevention and treatment of this lung disease for patients around the world. It is the global guideline network for COPD.

Heart UK
Provides an evidence-based approach to the management of dyslipidaemia and cardiovascular disease and is a useful resource for patients and families as well as health care professionals.

Higher Education Academy
Provides support to the higher education sector by working with individual academics. Through a network of discipline-based subject centres it works with UK universities and colleges, providing national leadership in developing and disseminating evidence-informed practice about enhancing the student learning experience.

International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk (ICCR)
The International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk's primary objective is to help raise awareness of abdominal obesity and its associated metabolic complications as a new modifiable risk factor for CVD.  The website provides a comprehensive, up-to-date source of information on abdominal obesity and cardiometabolic risk.

International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG)
A charity working internationally as an umbrella organisation for national primary care respiratory interest groups. Practical resources, information, research and international guidelines for healthcare professionals working with respiratory patients in community settings worldwide.

MedicAlert
A medical informatics service operating worldwide, 24 hours a day. Individuals can register with hidden medical conditions or allergies that could result in a medical emergency where they are unable to communicate with a health professional e.g. anaphylaxis, epilepsy, diabetes. MedicAlert can transmit vital medical information about that individual to a health professional dealing with such an emergency situation.

Met Office - Health
The Health section explains how weather can affect health and provides specially produced health forecasts to help professionals and patients know when, and where, there is a risk of illness. Through this understanding, action can be taken, by both healthcare providers and individuals, to help keep people well and enable more effective use of healthcare resources.

NHS Evidence - Cardiovascular
NHS Evidence, formerly part of the National Library for Health, provides access to 34 specialist collections which cover a wide range of common medical conditions, topics and health populations. Collections provide links to the latest guidelines, systematic reviews and research. The cardiovascular specialist collection aims to provide high quality, evidence-based information on all aspects of cardiovascular diseases.

NHS Evidence - Respiratory
NHS Evidence, formerly part of the National Library for Health, provides access to 34 specialist collections which cover a wide range of common medical conditions, topics and health populations. Collections provide links to the latest guidelines, systematic reviews and research. The respiratory specialist collection addresses a wide range of topics relating to the health and well being of individuals with respiratory problems or concerns.

NHS Heart Improvement Programme
Part of NHS Improvement - a national programme that works with clinical networks and NHS organisations to transform, deliver and sustain improvements across the entire pathway of care in several priority areas. It reports to the Department of Health CHD Programme Board, with a remit to support cardiac network development, ensure spread of service improvement within cardiac networks and facilitate the introduction of new service improvement tools and recognised clinical innovations.

NHS Lung Improvement Programme
Part of NHS Improvement - a national programme that works with clinical networks and NHS organisations to transform, deliver and sustain improvements across the entire pathway of care in several priority areas. It aims to support clinical teams, commissioners, service managers and other key stakeholders deliver effective clinical practice through process improvement and redesign. It is an initiative to support the implementation of the National Strategy for COPD Services in England and provides national support for the local improvement of respiratory services and covers COPD, asthma and home oxygen services.

NHS Stroke Improvement Programme
Part of NHS Improvement - a national programme that works with clinical networks and NHS organisations to transform, deliver and sustain improvements across the entire pathway of care in several priority areas. It was set up to provide national support for local improvement of stroke and TIA services. It is an NHS initiative to support the development of Stroke Care Networks and the implementation of the National Stroke Strategy. SIP works closely with the Department of Health, the Stroke Association, and other organisations working in the stroke field.

National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE)
NICE is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on promoting good health and preventing and treating ill health.

National Prescribing Centre
A health service organisation set up to promote high quality prescribing, and with good information about quality, DH initiatives and new knowledge.

Open University Validation Services
The Open University provides high-quality university education to all. It offers a comprehensive institutional approval and programme validation service for providers of higher education worldwide. This service is delivered by OU Validation Services (OUVS).

PHORCaST (Public Health Online Resource for Careers, Skills & Training)

The first "one-stop shop" for UK-wide information on careers and development in public health and health and wellbeing. It is an important resource for people wanting to begin a career in public health and for people at any level in the workforce who want to develop their career.

PHORUS (Public Health Open Resources for the University Sector)
Part of an initiative to promote the development of a range of open educational resources focused on public health in the Higher Education sector.  Funded by the JISC Open Educational Resources Programme and focused on public health, PHORUS is led by the Health Services and Practice Subject Centre working with the Royal Society for Public Health, Bournemouth University and other partners. Contributors have donated a range of open educational resources which are accessible and freely available for health professionals through their online JorumOpen repository at http://www.jorum.ac.uk/

Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (PCCS)
Educational charity for healthcare professionals who influence the care and outcome of patients with or at risk of cardiovascular disease in the primary care setting. It is affiliated to the British Cardiovascular Society and a member organisation of the National Heart Forum. It provides a general practice perspective on cardiovascular disease management to policy makers and expert bodies to exert influence and develop long term strategies which will lead to an improvement in CVD prevention and management in the UK.

Primary Care Respiratory Society UK (PCRS UK)
An independent charity representing primary care health professionals interested in delivering the best standards of respiratory care. Dedicated to achieving optimal respiratory care for all through representing primary care respiratory health needs at policy level, promoting best practice through education and training, supporting the development of health professionals in respiratory medicine and facilitating and leading primary care respiratory research.

Rotherham Respiratory
Training expertise for healthcare professionals, working with Strategic Health Authorities, Foundation and Primary Care Trusts across the Yorkshire & Humber region. All courses are accredited or certificated.

Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)
The professional membership body for general practitioners in the UK and abroad aiming to encourage and maintain the highest standards of general medical practice and act as the ‘voice' of general practitioners on education, training and standards issues. We are committed to improving patient care, clinical standards and GP training. 

Royal College of Nursing
The RCN represents nurses and nursing, promotes excellence in practice and shapes health policies.

Royal College of Physicians
The College is a professional membership organisation representing the concerns of over 20,000 Fellows and Collegiate Members worldwide.  It aims to ensure high quality care for patients by promoting the highest standards of medical practice.  It provides and sets standards in clinical practice and education and training, supports doctors in their practice of medicine, and advises the Government, public and the profession on healthcare issues.

Skills for Health
The Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the UK health sector to help develop solutions that deliver a skilled and flexible UK workforce in order to improve health and healthcare.  Specific aims are to develop and manage national workforce competences, profile the UK workforce and improve workforce skills and influence education and training supply.

South Asian Health Foundation
To promote improvements in the quality of, and access to, healthcare and health promotion in South Asians and to promote research that leads to these objectives.

STARS (Syncope Trust And Reflex anoxic Seizures)
The leading patient advocacy organisation providing guidance and information on syncope, a common cause of unexplained blackouts or faints. STARS aims to ensure that anyone with unexplained loss of consciousness receives timely and accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, support and direction to appropriate medical professionals.

TB Alert
Charity which aims to increase awareness and support TB care in the UK and worldwide. It contains information for health professionals and for patients, some translated into a variety of languages. The site also contains information about awareness campaigns and TB policy.

UK Health Forum
The UK Health Forum is a charitable alliance of professional and public interest organisations working to reduce the risk of avoidable non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by developing evidence-based public health policy and supporting its implementation through advocacy and information provision.

UK Stroke Forum
The UK Stroke Forum, hosted by The Stroke Association, is a coalition of 27 organisations committed to improving stroke care in the UK. The main activity of the UK Stroke Forum is the annual multidisciplinary scientific conference which aims to provide a forum for stroke clinicians and researchers to meet and share ideas, promote multidisciplinary research and provide a unified voice for more statutory sector funding for research.

UK Forum for Stroke Training (UKFST)
The UKFST is supporting the development of stroke-specific training and education UK wide through the Stroke-Specific Education Framework (SSEF).  The SSEF outlines the knowledge, skills and competencies that those pursuing a career in stroke specialist care should have in addition to the generic skills of their profession.  The UKSFT assesses courses against the SSEF to establish whether their content covers its different elements to the required level to enable the development of a national database of quality assured, endorsed training.  Endorsement will improve services and care for people affected by stroke and for those working in stroke care at all levels.
