Fiona Shally a Clinical Nurse Specialist awarded with an MSc in Respiratory Care in 2009, plans to use the knowledge and skills gained from her education to develop a new specialist multi-disciplinary team in her local area.

Claudette Bennett, a Practice Nurse passed her Diploma of HE in Chronic Disease Management in 2010: “This programme has given me the confidence to make decisions and enabled me to cross barriers and attain the next level.  It's enhanced my skills, given me credibility and helped me in obtaining my promotion".

Karen Holley a Lead Practice Nurse, completed her BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010: "Obtaining my degree has given me a sense of achievement, especially in my current role.  I feel I now have a broader understanding of the needs of my patients and am able to work with them, to offer the best possible care"

Tracey Lucas a Respiratory Specialist Nurse passed her BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010: “Completing this degree has helped me to develop a more holistic approach to respiratory patients from diagnosis to end of life care”

Gay Lewis a Practice Nurse who describes her job as challenging, with lots of variety and responsibility, was awarded with a BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010: “Completing this programme has given me more knowledge and confidence to manage my workload, especially for people with respiratory and allergic conditions"

 

Kathy Cambell is a Respiratory Specialist Practitioner and leads a multidisciplinary countywide community respiratory team for Gloucestershire PCT:  "I feel that my studies have filled a knowledge gap and it has been enormously effective in setting my career in the right direction. This level of education and the way it's delivered suited my working environment and learning styles, and has been invaluable to me"

Elaine Curtis was awarded with a BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010.  Having recently retired from being a Respiratory Care Associate for GSK, Elaine has embarked on a very exciting project which involves setting up a diabetes screening programme in Western Province Kenya: "Studying for my degree required a focused mind, a lot of discipline, and commitment, which will be invaluable in my future role"

 

 

Angela Pennington is a Respiratory Nurse Specialist and Lead Nurse for the Oxygen Assessment Service. She was awarded with a BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010:  "Completing my degree has given me greater knowledge and kept me up to date with current research in respiratory care. It's given me confidence to question other healthcare professional’s respiratory management and decisions"

Carol Stonham won the Queen’s Nurse Title in 2008 for her work in the community and was awarded with her Masters Degree in 2009: “If I had not been a student with you then I doubt very much I would have applied for the Queen’s Nurse Title"

 

 

Jacqueline Russell works for an outreach service for patients with COPD and bronchiectasis, providing supported discharge and admission avoidance.  She passed the Diploma of HE in Respiratory Care in 2010: "I feel the programme has helped me to consolidate and expand my knowledge and that it will stand me in good stead for the future"

Dawn Warner is employed as a Respiratory Nurse Specialist.  Her role is to care for patients at end of life care. She supports patients and their families to make difficult decisions.  Dawn was awarded with a  Diploma of HE in Chronic Disease Management in 2010: "This programme has helped me look more holistically at the patient and manage their co-morbidities more effectively"

Paula Hartill has a demanding job at a GP surgery in Telford.  She was awarded with a Diploma of HE in Chronic Disease Management in 2010: "Completing this programme has improved and increased my knowledge of Chronic Disease Management and feel it's enabled me to provide a higher standard of care to my patients, so they have benefitted too"

 

Dr Monsur Habib, is passionate about improving the respiratory care in Bangladaesh. He came to the UK in 2002 funded by a GINA grant to complete an intensive series of courses over a period of 6 weeks. He returned home with a vision to replicate the Education for Health model and became the founder of the 'Better Breathing Bangladesh' project.  Dr Habib is pictured with Monica Fletcher, CEO.

Multaj Bolton was awarded with a BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010:  "Completing my degree has made me a more confident and competent practitioner and I have proved to myself that I can succeed. As an 'old' style trained nurse I achieved an RGN 19 years ago.  Completing my degree has made me feel I can compete with the newer degree trained nurses rather than feeling second best"

Jane McCarthy a Practice Nurse, was awarded with a BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010: “I feel much more confident in practice and can speak to patients about clinical issues with much more certainty. Studying anatomy & physiology I can now explain clearly why certain drugs work and how they affect particular parts of the body"

 

 

Susan Townsend was awarded a BSc (Hons) in Respiratory Care in 2010.  Susan is a Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist involved in acute and emergency inpatient care at a large University hospital: "I believe that the modules I've studied as part of my programme have equipped me extremely well in the acute assessment of patients with respiratory disease and differential diagnosis"

 

 

Beverley Cox, a Nurse Practitioner who was awarded with her Masters Degree in 2008, investigated the issues patients considered useful in consultations and how these aligned with current policy initiatives around quality and patient involvement in care.

Jacqui Cooper a COPD Team Leader passed her MSc in Respiratory Care in 2009:  “Having a Masters has given me options that I would never have had before; in fact I wouldn’t have got my current job without it”

Jackie Walker a Community Based Respiratory Nurse was awarded with a First Class (Hons) Degree in Respiratory Care in 2010, she said:  "This has enhanced the depth and breadth of my knowledge which has furthered my ability and confidence in managing people with respiratory disease. I now feel better able to help patients to appropriately self manage their disease and for me to provide best evidence based care"
