Education must be key facet in Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Strategy

Education for Health's Chief Executive Responds to Health Secretary's CVD Outcomes Strategy, "Education must be a key facet in Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Strategy."Education for Health today welcomes the Health Secretary’s announcement of a new strategy for tackling cardiovascular disease. Speaking at the UK Stroke Forum Andrew Lansley said the government will develop a new ‘Outcomes Strategy’, aimed at creating a joined up approach across the NHS, public health and social care. The strategy will build upon current strategies and quality standards covering CVD.
Monica Fletcher, Chief Executive Education for Health, said today;
“We must welcome any attempt at joined up thinking when it comes to tackling CVD. This includes preventative services, as well as health and social care providers.
We believe a crucial element in improving the outcomes for people living with or at risk of CVD is better education. Research has shown that, in tackling long term cardiovascular conditions, a focus on education at primary care level has a huge impact. All too often proactive investment in education is overlooked, especially in these financially difficult times, but this is false economy as money invested now saves lives and money down the line.
We hope the government will give education the consideration it deserves in developing a new strategy for CVD.”
