Postgraduate Programmes: MSc in Long Term Conditions or MSc in Respiratory Practice

Our postgraduate programmes, MSc in Long Term Conditions or MSc in Respiratory Practice, awarded by the University of Hertfordshire and taught by Education for Health, are designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of practitioners who have to adapt to a changing evidence base, role transitions, and political and economic climate.
A programme of study gives you the opportunity to study a range of compulsory and optional modules around the long term conditions theme, which is highly relevant to clinical practice. Our programmes are offered in part time mode, with learners taking one or at most two modules at a time.

If you are planning to work as a trainer of clinicians, either for Education for Health or for your own Trust, PCN or Health Board, our PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Clinical Practice could be just right for you.
Or if you are looking for a Diabetes or Respiratory qualification, you could gain a PG Cert in Diabetes Care or Respiratory Practice.

When would I start?
It’s up to you! You start whenever you start your first module, so if that module starts in November, you start then. The new academic year, and our new programmes, start every September, but you can join at any point that suits you, based on the scheduled module dates.
Before starting, we do recommend talking to our Programmes team – contact information below – however, if you wish to purchase a place first, you can do so and they will be in touch using the information you provided during booking.
How long will it take?
It depends! Depending on how many modules you need to do and the next time those modules will run, after working out your pathway with our team, you could complete a PG Cert in just a year, or an MSc in typically three to five years, all part-time alongside your work and personal commitments.
Entry requirements
Applicants would normally have, at minimum, a lower second-class Honours degree in a health or social care related subject. Practitioners entering the programme will normally be expected to have experience working within long term conditions. However those without experience will be able to discuss their eligibility with the Programme Leader and their own line manager.
In order to ensure that all applications are eligible to undertake stand-alone modules, prospective learners are required to complete an official stand-alone admission form, in which their qualifications, previous and current experience, are clearly stated. Learners without an Honours degree must demonstrate knowledge and skills at a level equivalent to that of degree study prior to commencement, please talk to the Programmes team.
